What to Expect from Your Consultation at Regain Hearing Croydon
Every hearing test is adapted to your needs and requirements, and you will have all the time you need to chat with your hearing specialist about the reasons that have prompted you to book a hearing evaluation or anything specific that is causing you concern.
From there, whether you’d like a routine full hearing assessment or need a specific procedure to check whether a previously diagnosed condition remains under control, we’ll advise on the tests we think are necessary and work through each step.
Not every client needs every hearing test, so much depends on the hearing loss or changes you’ve noticed, as well as anything we discover during the testing processes. We may recommend some or all of the following.
Video otoscopy: A hearing test that gives us a detailed real-time look at your ear canal using a tiny camera that provides a live video feed. You can watch the video if you’d like to and can see any indications of infection, wax or inflammation.
Speech mapping: This appraisal allows us to gain a more specific understanding of how your ears interpret sounds, often helping us adjust the programming of your hearing aids to ensure they meet your particular needs.
Tympanometry: Ear pressure tests verify the health of your middle ear, which often influences how you perceive sounds. Issues like torn eardrums, infections or excess fluid can be quickly identified and treated to relieve abnormal pressure levels.
Software-based word list tests: We use electronic speech processing tests, which produce tones through headphones at varied pitches and volumes to see how you process spoken words and how background noise impacts your hearing quality.
Hearing loss simulation: Understanding how hearing loss affects your perceptions of conversations and other noises is key to effective treatment. Simulators mimic the exact way you hear sounds, which can help explain your hearing condition and share this with friends and loved ones.
If you are interested in any of these testing options or would like to arrange a full hearing test with our talented audiology team, please get in touch.
